Idiot of the Week: Person with Extreme Case of the Mondays

Monday sucks. I know it. You know it. I would be a filthy liar if I sat here and said that I walk into work on Monday morning with a little hop in my step as I hum "Walking on sunshine" by Katrina & The Waves. I don't despise going into work though, as I am thankful and happy to be employed. I understand that some people may have have a bad weekend, perhaps some sort of horrible sickness, woke up late, got stuck in traffic, or whatever the case may be that has led them to a general attitude of hating the entire world - and to these people I grant them a calming understanding and a mulligan card. For those other types of people, which brings us to this week's Idiot Of The Week, I grant no sympathy and no "Get out of Jail Free" card.

The Idiot Of The Week that has an Extreme Case of the Mondays is not directed at one personal encounter that I came across yesterday but is really more of a generalization that sums up the day that was. I'm sure you can think of at least one example of an individual you had some sort of encounter with that fits the bill. This type of person woke up on the wrong side of the bed and decided at that moment that they were going to ruin everyone's day if possible. If they have a family, they probably did something in the morning to cause some sort of tension in the household that would continue where they left off after work. On the way to work, they are the people that either suck at driving to begin with, or randomly cut you off and give you the bird for no reason, or both. Once arriving at work, they perform some sort of action depending on their profession that makes Monday just a little more miserable and uneasy for everyone else. If someone was late to work, got stuck in traffic, is sick, or had a bad weekend, they tend to go after these people first and ensure that their day continues to plummet downhill. Meetings are painful, they cuss and threaten "X" if "Y" and "Z" don't happen immediately. You get the picture. On the way home, road rage comes back full force. Distracted by their anger, they merge off the exit at the last second and almost cause you to slam into the back of them. The bird comes back out again after a hard break check. Once they get back to their home sweet home, the drama picks up where it left off. Kids are put in timeout. Significant others are put down and belittled. If there are pets involved, they might get punted across the room or neglected. Bedroom doors are slammed and contemplations for ruining Tuesday begins.

Of course, this is all random stuff I just thought up and definitely isn't something I am speaking to that describes my actual day, but I am sure for someone out there, this scenario describes their day exactly. These types of people really need to lighten up a bit. I mentioned in a couple blogs ago that it is important to keep calm and collected as the situation dictates, but I also think its necessary to put people in their place, especially on Monday, and especially if they are being an asshole. I actually had a good Monday. Someone told me I "was their hero" after fixing a problem for them, so that was all fine and dandy.
